The end of the year is approaching, and for Canadian government agencies and Crown corporations affected by the Accessible Canada Act as the deadline for publishing updated accessibility plans is December 31, 2025.
The revised plans should use the standards published by Accessibility Standards Canada (ASC):
1. CAN/ASC - EN 301 549:2024 Accessibility requirements for ICT products and services (EN 301 549:2021, IDT)
2.CAN/ASC-1.1:2024 (REV-2025)-Employment
3.CAN/ASC-2.8:2025 – Accessible-Ready Housing
4.CAN-ASC-3.1:2025 – Plain Language
Moreover, the revised plans should take into account the changes to the act regarding digital accessibility and CAN/ASC EN 301 549. These revisions mandate that federally regulated entities ensure the accessibility of their websites by:
• June 1, 2027 for public sector organizations and,
• June 1, 2028 for private sector organizations
Federal public sector organizations and major corporations must guarantee that all existing and future mobile apps and electronic files they create and disseminate are accessible. For electronic files, this applies to files created as of June 1, 2028.
The following infographic summarizes the planning and reporting cycle under the ACA.
